Bio

Born and raised in Cullman, Alabama. In 1984 he began his artistic career with art and music study atBelmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1986,Williamson was recruited to the University ofAlabama at Birmingham to work with their theatre for one year. He then returned to the BelmontUniversity and concluded his study program with aBA in 1988. In the following year, Williamson moved to California and studied at California State University, and UCLA, working towards his MFA. Astrobotic and SpaceX have selectedWilliamson painting “Processional #9, Culmination”from the 2019 Venice Biennale to be part of a historic lunar mission happening in January. His artwork will be etched onto a Nanofiche Gold Disk a highly durable, miniaturized storage medium designed to survive the harsh conditions of space and sent to the Moon in January as part of a permanent lunar archive. This mission is part of a broader movement to extend human art and culture into space, alongside projects like Jeff Koons’ lunar sculpture. A second copy of the disk will return to Earth and become part of the permanent collection at theSmithsonian Institution. Williamson was three times awarded by the Pollock-Krasner Foundation; for Creativity in 2023 and 2019and an Award Grant in 2010. Among other awards were the Artists Special Recognition-Art Non StopInternational Film Festival (Buenos Aires), an IconAward-Los Angeles Beverly Arts, Special MentionAward MAVV Museum, Bluduemila AssociazioneSport & Arte – Best Foreign Artist (Naples, Italy), theART 1307 Istituzione Culturale – Artistic MeritAward, (Naples, Italy), and the Artslant International– Abstract Showcase Award Winner. He has exhibited extensively in both the United States and abroad.
